SUMMARY:Mental Health First Aid Information Session with Elaine Vandenburgh
DESCRIPTION:About\n\n\n\nMental health is an essential component of a resilient\, effective healthcare workforce. Yet each year\, nearly one in five U.S. adults experiences a mental health condition that can affect both personal well-being and professional performance. As healthcare and allied health leaders\, understanding how to recognize and respond to these challenges—within teams and across patient populations—can support a more compassionate and responsive care environment. \n\n\n\nThis introductory virtual session will provide a broad overview of Mental Health First Aid (MHFA)\, an evidence-based national training that prepares individuals to identify\, approach\, and connect people experiencing mental health or substance use concerns with appropriate support. \n\n\n\nThis session is designed for those interested in learning more about Mental Health First Aid and how it may align with your organization’s goals for staff well-being\, patient care\, and workplace culture. \n\n\n\nIn this session\, we will:\n\n\n\n\nDiscuss the prevalence of mental health conditions and their impact on individuals\, teams\, and healthcare organizations\n\n\n\nProvide an overview of the content and structure of the 8-hour MHFA training\n\n\n\nEngage in a brief activity to experience one MHFA action step: listening nonjudgmentally\n\n\n\nShare examples of how organizations are integrating MHFA into their workforce strategies\n\n\n\nOffer information on how your team or organization can explore next steps\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Presenter:\n\n\n\nElaine Vandenburgh was first introduced to Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) in a previous role supporting organizations with workforce planning and training. The course was a turning point—within weeks\, she found herself using what she had learned to respond to mental health crises in real time until professional help arrived. It made her wonder: were these situations new\, or had the signs always been there\, unnoticed? The training opened her eyes. \n\n\n\nThat experience sparked deeper questions: How many signs had she missed in her 10+ years in workforce development? How many people might she have helped with the right tools? What would change if Mental Health First Aid were as widely taught as CPR? \n\n\n\nToday\, Elaine continues to explore these questions in her role as Healthcare Education Director for Minnesota State’s HealthForce Center of Excellence. She is also a coach\, yoga and mindfulness instructor\, and a Mental Health First Aid instructor. Elaine is committed to expanding mental health literacy across Minnesota’s healthcare and wellness communities. Her vision is to help make Mental Health First Aid as common and accessible as CPR—an essential skill embedded in how we care for ourselves\, support one another\, and strengthen the systems around us. \n\n\n\nRegister here!

SUMMARY:Adaptive Leadership in Allied Health
DESCRIPTION:  \nDuring this interactive webinar\, participants will explore and apply the Adaptive Leadership principles identified by Ronald Heifetz in The Work of Leadership.  \nOur goal with this first 90 minute "intro" is to provide an overview of adaptive leadership\, and how adaptive leadership principles can be applied to work in Allied Health. This information is intended to help leaders (association leaders\, volunteer leaders\, organizational executives and administrators\, etc.) navigate the myriad complex issues that contextualize work in the allied health and human services fields. \nUltimately\, HPN believes that this sort of interactive learning opportunity may grow into a more formalized cohort-learning experience with multiple sessions over a number of weeks\, but for this initial session we are asking for your input and participation\, so that our future programming on this topic is appropriately aligned with your/your organization’s needs and goals.  \nParticipants are strongly encouraged to come to the session with their own adaptive challenges in mind. During our time together\, we will be using real world examples to practice applying adaptive leadership principles/skills – the closer those real world examples come to your lived experience\, the more valuable and relevant our learning experience will be. \nPlease continue reading below for our session objectives\, and to register for this opportunity!  \nSession Objectives: \n\nTo raise awareness of the underrepresentation of allied health professionals in healthcare leadership\nTo introduce the concept of adaptive leadership and its relevance to allied health\nTo equip participants with practical tools to develop adaptive leadership skills\nTo foster a supportive community for allied health leaders.\n\nFormat and time commitment: \n\nA 90-minute facilitated session focused on the application of adaptive leadership techniques to work in allied health\nLargely discussion-based with several activities which will generate notes/resource documents\n\nBefore the Workshop: \nThere are three items that will enhance the value of your participation in this learning opportunity.  \nFirst\, please read this blog by HPN Board Member\, Nanci Burchell\, which provides an overview of the lack of allied health professional (AHP) representation in organizational leadership.  \nAlso\, please read this response from HPN staff member and our facilitator for the session\, Zach McElgunn\, which digs a bit deeper to explore some of the reasons behind this lack of AHP representation in leadership roles.  \nFinally\, check out Ronald Heifetz’s The Work of Leadership\, which is a short article that does a phenomenal job of outlining the principles that we will be putting to practice with activities during our time together.  \nThis may feel like a lot of “pre-work” for a webinar\, but again\, our hope is that this session is engaging and valuable for all who attend! By preparing these materials in advance\, it is HPN’s hope that we will be able to jump into the application of these ideas to maximize our time together on April 16.  \nIf you have any questions\, or require clarification/assistance with any of the above\, please feel free to email our facilitator directly at zack@gpsforgrowth.com. \nWe look forward to incorporating your perspective\, energy\, and expertise into our conversation this October! \n\nSpeaker Bio: \nZach McElgunn began doing behavioral health research as an undergraduate student studying the psychological and physical effects of diabetes at the University of Virginia. Since this time of poster presentations\, statistical analysis\, and behavioral health narrative analysis\, he has spent the past 9 years working with associations and community organizations in the healthcare\, behavioral health\, and human services spaces to more precisely define “quality\,” and understand the mechanisms that bring quality improvement goals to fruition. This includes work to achieve both individual and organizational accreditations and certifications; the development of continuing education programming; technical assistance for the implementation of well-defined models of care (i.e. EBPs); and the reduction of variability in service delivery. Currently\, his work sits at the intersection of implementation science\, organizational culture\, and third-party evaluation of systems of practice.

SUMMARY:Facilitating Job Fit and Addressing Workforce Challenges in Allied Health

Wondering how to ensure your team has the right skills for success? This interactive webinar series will tackle these challenges head-on\, providing you with the tools to assess job fit\, build strong career pathways\, and navigate the evolving allied health workforce with a clearer vision of the road ahead.\n\nThe allied health landscape is changing rapidly. Job fit is crucial for both employee satisfaction and organizational success. HPN and JOFI\, leaders in workforce analysis\, are teaming up to offer this 3-part webinar series. Participants can expect to learn proven strategies for skills-based hiring\, career development\, and building strong teams.\n\n \n\nParticipants are strongly encouraged to attend all three sessions\, as the content explored at each is intended to build towards a more comprehensive view of the many factors that impact job fit\, succession planning\, career navigation\, and other related topics.\n\n \n\nWho should participate in this webinar series?\n\n Allied Health Professionals: Gain valuable insights for career development and explore new opportunities within the evolving allied health environment.\n Hiring Managers & HR Professionals: Discover innovative strategies for building high-performing teams by focusing on skills\, not just resumes.\n Organizational Leaders: Equip yourselves to define and identify measurable factors that contribute to optimal "job fit" within your teams.\n\n \n\nWhat can I expect as a participant?\n\nThis interactive series unfolds over three sessions spread across three months. Each session builds upon the previous\, culminating in a comprehensive understanding of skills-based talent practices.  \n\n \n\nParticipants will benefit from:\n\n Expert-led presentations: Renowned industry specialists will share practical strategies and real-world applications\n Interactive learning: Apply your learnings through engaging exercises designed for practical implementation\n Networking opportunities: Connect with colleagues and peers to share insights and experiences\n\n \n\nSpace is limited! Register today to secure your spot in this valuable professional development series.\n\n____________________________________________________________________________________________\n\nSession One: Introduction to Skills Based Talent Management \n\nJuly 10\, 2024 – 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm ET\n\nDuring this session\, participants will explore how our (very human!) biases impact hiring practices\, and how to develop a more objective view of “fit.” We will also be introduced to practical skills-based talent practices – what they are\, where they're most effective\, and common outcomes once these practices have been implemented within an organization.\n\nParticipants will also have an opportunity to engage in a job-fit assessment themselves\, in preparation for a review of results at our next session.\n\n____________________________________________________________________________________________\n\nNEXT SESSION – Session Two: Career Navigation in a Skill-Based Talent System\n\nAugust 14\, 2024 – 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm ET\n\nThis session will emphasize the reality that career navigation happens through the tenure of one's career. With this view in mind\, we will dig into the difference between moving from organization to organization vs. moving between different skills\, roles\, and responsibilities within an organization. \n\nThis session will also reserve time to review job-fit reports\, measures\, and rationales that have been generated since session one. \n\n____________________________________________________________________________________________\n\nSession Three: Skills-Based Hiring\n\nSeptember 11\, 2024 – 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm ET\n\nThis final session will put together the content from the previous two sessions within the context of change management. We will also supplement our group learning with practice opportunities for the use of skills-based hiring strategies\, and an exploration of a few case studies and common outcomes when using a data-driven approach to recruitment and retention.\n\nREGISTER BELOW!

SUMMARY:Virtual Discussion & Debate: Earn & Learn
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an engaging debate and discussion on proposed legislation to address an Allied Health workforce shortage in California!\nOur next Health Professions Network virtual event is a debate and discussion on a controversial bill traveling through the California State senate with implications for Allied Health educational programs\, accrediting bodies and professionals. \nAs California is large and influential\, this discussion will also speak to larger implications of the proposed approach to address workforce allied health workforce shortages which might ultimately be taken up as a model for other States. \nIn a novel debate & discussion format\, we'll take a deeper look at the specific legislation and hear directly from the office of the California Assemblyman who introduced the bill\, as well as hear from the organizations that have raised concerns about its enactment. \nHealth Professions Network members may attend this virtual event absolutely free\, while non-members are invited to attend for a registration fee of $20 per attendee. Members and non-members may register with the form\, below. \nBackground on California AB 1273\nRecent legislative action in California may impact HPN's members and allied health professionals and educational programs\, broadly. The proposed bill -- AB1273 -- supports the development of "earn and learn" programs in the state of California\, which would allow students in the allied health professions to be paid for their labor during their clinical education. The bill was developed in response to projections of a severe healthcare workforce shortage in the near future across the state. \nThe Society for Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) and the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB)\, two HPN member organizations\, reached out to HPN leadership\, voicing concerns that the apprenticeship model facilitated by AB1273 would cause problems for X-ray and NMT Technologist educational programs\, whose education accreditation standards prohibit the payment of students. You can read a letter from the NMTCB\, here\, and a letter from the SNMMI\, here. \nThis would in turn raise questions about what accreditation bodies could serve as programmatic accreditors in the state of California\, thereby impacting the number of accredited programs\, and ultimately the number of students who could sit for their national certification as Nuclear Med Technologists\, which may pose the risk of  exacerbating the forecasted workforce shortage. \nAs of June 28\, the bill was re-referred to the California Senate Committee on Appropriations and will be discussed at the Senate Appropriations meeting on Thursday\, July 15.  The next day\, July 16\, the California senate will adjourn for summer recess and our experts think it unlikely that a vote to pass the bill will occur before the Senate returns on August 16.\n \nRegister\, today!\n[caldera_form id="CF60ec936a23707"]
